Hard Cheese

Generally these cheeses are the longest matured and have the smallest moisture content. Hard cheeses normally come either cloth bound, wax covered or with a natural rind.
1148 - Broadoak Cheddar

Broadoak Cheddar

A full flavoured traditionally made clothbound Cheddar with a crumbly texture. This Cheddar is suitable for vegetarians.

Set within the lush green fields of the Sussex Weald, the Traditional Cheese Dairy uses delicious free-range, grass-fed raw milk from award-winning local farms, to create fine-quality artisan cheeses

Broadoak Cheddar is traditionally made, using British Frisian raw cows’ milk and wrapped in double muslin. The cheeses are then matured for 12 months on wooden shelves. They are rubbed and turned twice a week.

Broadoak has the characteristics of a clothbound Cheddar; it has a clean and sharp-edged flavour, with hints of sweet hay and vintage flavour and has a distinctive crumbly texture with salt crystals.

Broadoak is suitable for vegetarians as the muslin cloth is adhered to the rind using vegetarian butter, rather than the traditional lard.
