Here at Paxtons we like to get to know our cheesemakers as more than just suppliers and we like our staff to know their stuff.  With that in mind we shipped Philippe and Dan from our Bath shop off to Westcombe Dairy in April last year and their amazing cheesemaker Tom Calver was kind enough to let them get their hands in the curds and make some Cheddar. 

Returning to our cheese counters this month after a long leave of absence is an old Yorkshire friend Swaledale Ewe's cheese.

Paxton & Whitfield Bath will be teaming up again with the Tasting Room Wine Merchants on Green Street (http://www.tastingroom.co.uk/) for a wine and cheese matching evening on Tuesday 30th April.

Spring is an exciting time in the cheese world.  Fresh young styles of Goat's and sheep's cheeses that we have been denied for months are starting to emerge.  Go down to our Bath shop and see some of the delights that are coming in again.  To name just a couple:  Windrush Curd Cheese, little pats of days-old goat's curd from a single farm in Gloucestershire.  Lou Sotch du Cagette, an innocent-looking, tiny sheep's cheese from France which packs a surprising punch.  Also, we sadly must say goodby to our winter friend Mont d'Or shortly.  The last cheeses of the season will be being made just now in the Savoie so try it while you still can.

The Christmas market in Bath is now taking place, as of Thursday 22nd November you will be able to enjoy our company not just here at the shop but also at our stall at the south end of Abbey Green.  We will have a few favourite lines from the shop but will also be featuring different cheesemakers throughout so will have a few treats you may not find in the shop.  Do come and see us and soak in the atmosphere

The Bath Soft Cheese Company at Park Farm were wonderful hosts to Dan and Philippe from our Bath shop last week.

An evening of wonderful blue cheeses matched with some fantastic dessert wines.

Two of our Bath team had a wonderful day out making cheese at Westcombe Dairy in April.

New in our Stratford shop today, Morbier!  Often made by Comte producers, this cheese has a smooth creamy and mellow taste, with a thin layer of ash running through the centre separating the evening milk from the morning milk.  A wonderful tasting cheese, also looks very striking on the cheese board.

We will be sampling this lovely cheese in our Stratford shop, so come in and try some for yourself.
