Cloth Bound Cheddar Truckle
Our Cheddar Truckle is a small 1.8kg version of a vast 26kg Traditional Westcountry Farmhouse Cheddar (PDO) which is clothbound and wrapped in Paxton & Whitfield branded wax paper featuring our Royal Warrants. The perfect gift for a serious cheddar lover or a fabulous centrepiece for a party.
This cheese is special as it is maturated in natural caves which impart an underlying earthiness to the flavour profile. The flavour is distinctively fruity, with a nutty bite and a dense consistency that is satisfying in the mouth.
The clothbound Cheddar Truckle has a myriad of uses. For a party centrepiece, you can slightly unwrap and cut out a piece then leave your guests to continue feasting. You can surround it with nuts and fruits, jars of chutneys and crackers and this is an easy, theatrical, and delicious way of providing party nibbles. It works equally well as a large piece of cheese which comes in and out of the fridge to be picked at over multiple days and at multiple meals. The cloth can either be peeled off with a flourish, or partially removed so you can re-wrap and keep the moisture within the cheese.
This is a specialist cheese which is made to exacting specifications regarding geography, milk source and recipe, earning it a coveted Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
Brillant with Paxton's No 93 Ale. A golden, coloured ale with balanced malt and zesty hop flavours. It pairs well with a crunchy oatcake, our No. 93 Ale Chutney or Piccalilli and is perfect for a ploughmans lunch.
Please note the cloth should be peeled off before eating. This can easily be done with a knife.
